Details from last week's Freitag post. Fine fenestration at #OvertounHouse a #Scots Baronial style country house near #Dumbarton #Scotland

Looking up to an ornate corbelled corner turret with a small window lined up with the corner of the walls below. The 'backbone' of a dead ivy frond once reaching for the turret, but disrupted below - all that remains is the inaccessible dead top part. In light grey stone and the sky behind is bleached out (but as I readily recall, it was a cloudy, very rainy day)

Ornate fixed-light window set in weathered light grey stone, bordered by protruding stone 'rope' detail. Four - lobed, the window is pointed at top and bottom, rounded to either side.

I love this sculpted plaque, complete with stone screwheads, on James Smith's 1860s Scots Baronial style Overtoun House near Dumbarton. However, the fact that two of the 'screwheads' are at right angles to the other two does rather make my brain itch!

A stone plaque with fake screwhead attaching it to the wall. Two of these screw heads have the slots parallel to the ground, while on the other two, the slots are perpendicular to it. This is just plain wong!

An unusually shaped window consisting of a diamond with two circles on either side which is surrounded by rope-like moulding.

Scots Baronial style bridge across the Overtoun Burn by Overtoun House near Glasgow. Built in1895 and designed by H.E. Milner, it seems to have its stone cannons trained on nearby Dumbarton.

This bridge has a rather dark reputation due to the downward sloping gaps in its crenelations which, unfortunately, can catch dogs out if they jump up onto the parapet, leading to them slipping off and falling into the ravine below.

A sculpture of an imp-like creature nestled at the base of a tree.

The Scots Baronial splendour of Overtoun House on the edge of the Kilpartrick Hills to the west of Glasgow. It was designed by James Smith and was built in the 1860s.
