A screenshot from my real hardware ReactOS machine. There's Winamp opened playing some module tracker tunes, german HyperTerminal connected to a rp2430 PA-RISC server and ClassiCube connected to the Not Awesome 2 server.

No no you can't. It seems like it can for an annoyingly long time, but no, only from an IDE CDROM drive, and only only if it set to master on the bus.

A nice Christmas surprise – qemu 10.2.0 is out including support for HP 9000 715/64 emulation, one of the machines supported by NeXTstep/PA-RISC. The NeXTstep kernel now is able to make quite a bit more progress but complains about "unknown interrupt"s.

Update! The HP9000/712‘s Power Supply Unit had an error in the IC STR80154A that is responsible for doubling 115V to 230V. It was latched up in doubling mode, causing a short circuit.

👀 Now the machine is in "Graphics Error" mode (flashing power LED). Screen says out of range (not sure if true or it just doesn't like 75Hz). Does anyone know in which actual situations the LED flashing happens and when not?

Mir genügt es, wenn die Maschinen ein liebevolles Zuhause finden, und nicht dem Elektroschrott anheim fallen müssen.

NeXTSTEP on a 712/100XC is quite fast. For some special video modes of the HP 712/715, NeXTSTEP provided specific support, e.g. the 4096-color-virtual-million-color-modes.

I’m going to visit my parents next week, and this would be a good opportunity for me to bring my 715/50 back with me, so I could hopefully fix the power supply.

But while the machine itself wouldn’t be too big or too heavy to take it on the train, its original box is about twice its size :-(

Hey #HP, #PARISC and all #retrocomputing friends, could anyone check the wiring of the elusive HP A4022-62003 cable ?

This is the short cable that connects the HP-HIL and PS/2 adapter box (A4022-62005) to the 10 pin modular connector on some HP 715 workstations.

Is it straight through ?

Regrettably, the Enter museum has many more SGI than HP workstations on display (sure, they do look nice!). I just wanted to write that they have at least representatives of all case types that I’ve used—but in fact, I’ve also used J class and the later B class machines.
