So I thought I was done with React OS. I found a USB 2.0 drive I had laying around. Low and behold, the VM actually read it. So I started transferring files that I thought might work. 32 bit browser installers. Pale Moon, Vivaldi, some other 32bit browser? All duds. Modern browsers are a bust too. This is a 32bit OS based on Windows Server 2003. And boy does it show. It's quite fickle with what software could work. Anyone know of a functional browser for #ReactOS? #FOSS #OpenSource #Linux

Browsing old bookmarks I ran across a bookmark for #ReactOS. So I snagged the ISO, spun up a VM and installed it. I was instantly slapped in the face with very archaic Windows XP days of the installation phase. It's so computery in comparison to modern operating system standards. Then the desktop smacks me back to Windows 2000. The fact this works this well is a testament to the team, but warn me that I'm going to be transported to the past before hand. Anyone use this in the wild?

Can't wait to see how #Commodore will implement the new Age Verification Requirement in the the PET, VIC-20, C64, C128 and Amiga Workbench.

Same for #Plan9 , #OpenBSD , #IRIX , SerenityOS , FreeDOS , #ReactOS , OS2 , #HaikuOS , Minix3 , RISCOS , AROS , CPM , Solaris and KolibriOS...

The answer: They won't because it's ridiculous.

There is a silver lining to the whole #python #chardet debacle. If it is legal to throw a pile of code at an LLM, and tell it to write a new version of that code that is not a derivative then that gives us a lot of options too.

GPL compatible #ZFS? no problem! #ReactOS from the leaked NT/2k sources? No problem!

Maybe this is a golden age for the collapse of proprietary software after all. If they can do an end run around the #GPL we can do an end run around the #EULA.

Ohh boi I wanna say did not think #Windows can go any lower but nah totally see this coming. So lemme say again it's really time to think about #Linux or seriously help #ReactOS to get ready for prime time, if you can't let go of how Windows work.

@kluergen Ich vermute, dass es damals durchaus einen Sinn gehabt hätte. Es gab einfach keine Alternativen zu Windows im Clientbereich für die breite Masse. Mittlerweile sind viele Applikationen webbasiert und/oder es gibt gleichwertige Tools. Auch und gerade im Businessebereich.

Jetzt ist #ReactOS wohl überholt. Vielleicht als PoC noch ganz interessant ;)
