#Pathfinder2

We played our Pathfinder 2 game today. We had a couple of satisfying encounters.

First, we went to investigate a boat because we traced the fake merchants (the ones who tried to kill all of the delegates at the treaty talks) to that vessel. We learned that the "merchants" had really stinky boots and the ship captain had ordered those boots thrown overboard.

This tracked with what we noticed - the "merchants" all had brand new (though cheap) boots.

A mate on the ship had kept a pair of the boots, so we paid him for those and inspected them - they were indeed stinky and unpleasant, but we found a small flower in one boot. We used that clue to find our way to the place where Bad Stuff Was Happening.

We learned that people were frequently disappearing near the docks, so of course we checked it out. We used the flower clue to find an entrance to a sewer, where we fought a couple of Omox. That was a nasty fight but it wasn't really dangerous. They had a LOT of hit points, so it took a while. And they had an ability that let them disarm us of melee weapons, which was hella inconvenient. I mainly used spells because they were demons, so my sanctified spells did extra damage to them.

Then we figured out where all the people were disappearing to - Grizzers. they have a stomach that is like a bag of holding (they can put a LOT in it, because it's an extradimensional space or something). They are fae lizardy things, and they were tough to fight. They grab you with their long tongues and then they swallow you

And we were faced with three of them. A well-timed "slow" spell from one of our party turned out to be an even better idea than we originally thought, because it turns out that these guys can swallow you pretty easily, but they can't digest you without using up all three of their actions in a round. Well, casting "slow" on that one meant he could not digest anyone, and that's the one that swallowed our wizard, so that was really a good play.

My character got swallowed also, but I had cast Unfettered Movement just before that so I got right back out. I did some smashing with my warhammer and managed to land a crit on the one that had swallowed the wizard, so he was safely retrieved.

It took a long time to defeat all of them, and it looked like the Champion might get swallowed too, but we finally whittled the bad guys down and defeated them.

Even though the Champion was using her ability to block damage, my character ended that fight with only 45 HP (normally I have 154 or something). So it was a big fight and we were in some peril.

Anyway, we think we solved the mystery of Where People Were Disappearing To down on the docks. I don't know that it advances the overall story, but we got some nice loot out of it and made the place safer.

At one point, when we had just run into the Omox, the Wizard suggested that he just cast Wall of Stone and be done with it. I think that would have been awful and also really funny. Because it would have blocked up that whole sewer, but the pipe was so big that it would probably take a long time before it backed up enough that the town noticed, and we could be long gone by then.

But we did the right thing and cleared out the monsters. I'm not sure what we'll do next - I think the person we were trying to track to this town (the person who sicced the "merchants" on us) may have been eaten by one of the Grizzers, so I don't know what we'll do next. Maybe go report that we found him (to the church - he's a priest there) and that will give us an in with the clergy? We'll see.

We had our Pathfinder 2 game on Saturday, and it was fun! This was our opening session for book 2 of our adventure path, so I thought we were going to be in for a bunch of exposition and would not see much action. Instead, we had a big encounter!

We were traveling toward the town of Greengold, and when we arrived at a beach, we saw Plague Barges that were headed for shore. We had heard something about these types of boats while we were on the road (barges filled with undead), but I had no idea we would run into them so soon!

We ended up fighting Shadows and a Graveknight who was mounted on an undead dragon. It was a dangerous fight and our wizard died twice. He's a very good sport about that (he's someone who thinks it makes the game more fun if someone gets knocked into the "dying" condition - he's like that when he is the DM as well).

But I was able to revive him and we were eventually victorious. I had a few rough turns where things were NOT going my way (we were in an area that was hit with Entangle, and when I tried to unentangle myself I made it worse and got immobilized), but overall we did well and I got in some satisfying hits.

And we sank the ships while they were still in deep water, so they could not harm the living.

I like fighting the undead because as a cleric, I can hurt them while healing allies. Very convenient that the game allows that.

We'll be among a lot more elves now, so the next time I level I'm going to have my character learn to speak their language - right now she only knows Dwarven and Common, and it's going to be pretty limiting. It could take a while - we JUST leveled. Maybe I can buy something that will help with translation until I can get there (like some scrolls so I can cast whatever they are calling "tongues" now?).

I kind of like something I discovered over the weekend - Pathfinder has names for wands that don't match the spell name that powers the wand. The names are pretty cool. But I wish they would make it a lot more obvious or easier to cross-reference those things. It's pretty easy to guess that a Wand of Hopeless Night is "Darkness." It would make me a lot happier if it was easy to figure out that a Wand of Mental Purification was "Soothe." Or that a Wand of Purification" is "Cleanse Afflication" OR "Clear Mind" OR "Sound Body."

I do like the wand names, though.

I played a game called Boxes that a friend gave me - it came in Humble Bundle and they didn't want it. I enjoyed it - it's very much like The Room series. Less solving puzzles and more noticing things that you can manipulate (and therefore open hidden compartments to find the doohickey you need next). It was pretty.

We also played our Pathfinder 2 game on Saturday. The Husband made me a nice cheat sheet about the different types of healing my character can do. I had been meaning to make one and I just hadn't because it's more complicated than I wanted to deal with.

I think he thought I was exaggerating, but when he started writing it out, the other gamers who are Really Into This Game System started contributing and he realized just how many weird little things I have to take into account when figuring out what to roll for each type of healing. I felt vindicated, and also really thankful because the card he made is helpful in keeping it all straight.

We fought a Big Bad Guy this session, which was exciting. My character didn't do a lot, but that's okay - I kept everyone alive and managed to keep the Bad Guy off-balance (he had to spend an action to move every turn because of me).

Also the floor was lava, which was funny but also terribly inconvenient. I was really glad I had memorized "Fly" before we got into that fight.

We finally defeated The Big Bad Guy and now we have located the tomb that was the whole point of this module. We didn't actually go in and look for whatever McGuffin we're supposed to find (or maybe we're supposed to leave something there? I can't remember now). That will be next week.

It was fun and also satisfying to reach the big battle in this module of the adventure path. It was a tough fight, but we figured it out. And then I healed everybody. Using my handy-dandy cheat sheet.

(edited because I had "role" instead of "roll" for some reason)

Dabei bin ich doch letztes Jahr all-in gegangen & hab grad alle Regelwerke u.a. besorgt. Hmpf. 😕

😄 #7D4S #Pathfinder2

Heute endlich #DivineMysteries beendet.

2024-12-07

We played our Pathfinder 2 game yesterday and it was fun. We actually had some combat this time instead of just the reputation stuff. (Note: anyone writing modules needs to really think hard about that reputation crap - stop throwing in Lores that no one would have - a party of 4 or 5 will never have what is needed and that is an unnecessary bummer).

Anyway! We actually came up with a plan for the first encounter and IT WORKED! We sent a couple of fireballs over, and then I sent a Divine Wrath, and after that was done we had very few opponents left to fight.

We were not so lucky the next time around - we spotted the group from a distance again, but we were NOT sneaky, our damage rolls were pretty poor, and they had one guy who had some amazing luck and nearly got away from us and almost sounded the alert.

I think a couple of guys did end up getting away, now that I think about it, so that will probably matter next time.

Anyway, we're trying to sneak around and sow discord in these groups that the current Big Bad is pulling together to try to start a war with Our Friends. I'm not sure how we'll we're doing with that (I don't know if you can avoid the war, or if the best we can hope for is to diminish the Bad Army so the good guys can win).

It was fun and I was glad our wizard got to do some strategizing. He likes that and we often just run in.
