A roughly spherical beige mushroom with a crack-covered surface and a hole on top. it is surrounded by dewy blades of grass.

The same mushroom but viewed from directly above. It is spherical, with a surface so cracked as to look like scales, with a few bigger cracks shooting through like lightning bolts. There is a dark jagged hole in the center. Dewy blades of grass surround it.

From Tuesday's hike, this is the biggest mushroom I've ever seen! It's a giant puffball (𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘢 𝘨𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘢); hand included for size reference (plus, my nails were pretty colors).

A giant white amorphous fungus blob of doom, with a couple of holes in the surface and a crack like an upside down smile. My hand (with nails painted alternately gold and rose bronze) is reaching towards it as it sits in the grass plotting world domination.

So apparently, it is mushroom season around here. It's been fairly dry, so I was not expecting a lot of fungi out in the woods but was quite wrong. I found one puffball about 2 weeks ago but didn't have a camera or my phone with me, so I went back out and took some pictures this time. Puffballs are bright white unless otherwise described in the Alt text.
Recipes and cooking suggestions are most welcome, thanks!

Decent sized puffball with slightly oblong shape. I liked the way the light was changing over this one. I personally see an abstract bearded face in the light and shadows, but maybe that's just me.

Somewhat kidney shaped puffball mushroom next to a few green blades of grass and some brown leaves and a few walnuts. I actually harvested this one and will probably just try frying it in bread crumbs to start with. Suggestions or recipes are very appreciated.

I’ve been processing the giant puffball mushroom since yesterday. I’m not going to bother making powder. I’m just busting the dried pieces up into smaller pieces. They can be added to soups and stews and such. I went hiking with @Knightky in the woods near Guelph. I saw something glowing white and round as a redhead’s untanned arse. I got soooo excited. I squat in the forest over a glowing white puffball mushroom. I have a huge grin. The puffball looks a bit like someone’s ass. It even has buttcheeks.
