Eeew, just saw a rat in the bushes along the fence between our yard and our neighbours. Reported it of course.

Seems the time of year for it though. Have seen the council pest control guys at a couple of places up and down the street in the last month or so. And it was this time of year a couple of years ago, when we had them in our garden shed.

All that being said, I think I am going to have to have a stern word with our in-house Pest Control employee, Fifi Von Fuirendal Le Flooff, to let her know that her fat hairy butt needs to get in the game a bit more!

(I might give her some leeway though, given that she is an old woman of 14 years.)

Kind human tip: Rats hate peppermint. If you want to get rid of rats humanely, add a few drops of peppermint oil to some old desiccant packs (the ones that say: GEL DO NOT EAT), and toss them into the rats dwelling. I'm still experimenting with this myself, but the results are promising. The peppermint oil is so intensely strong to their sensitive noses that they will likely want to move out post haste! Instead of killing them and having new rats replace them, you're driving them away entirely while the oils linger.
