Over the last few weeks, my go-to site for quick #RBN spot lookups (https://skimmer.g7vjr.org/?dx=so5cw) was changed to summarize spots from different skimmers over time and bands, which I don't like. So I wrote my own small script which produces basically the old format: https://rbn.telegraphy.de/lite?dx=SO5CW

And?… Just did it. A python script every minute changes bands, picks a random CW frequency, sends my beacon text at 20wpm, then waits. Takes 11min to hit every band my radio can do.

Hope to gain some insight from #RBN from this.

I’m gonna set up my #CW beacon (the one aimed at probing the #RBN) to send ‘67’ as part of its TX string.

Why? Because we need more young people in the #AmateurRadio service (& hobby), and any excuse will do.

@DL6PL Yes, I suspect that it's different in EU. When I'm over there and tune around during the week, there always seem to be signals around. Not true here, sadly.

But I was surprised that even with the #rbn showing that my CQs were copyable in EU on 12m and 17m, I got no replies (and heard no one else clg CQ).

I could always cheat and announce myself on the #skcc sked page, but that feels like defeat, even if a QSO results.

I seriously wonder if #CW activity has fallen below the critical mass to keep it sustainable (except in contests). A series of long CQs on 12m, 17m and 30m went unanswered, even with plenty of #rbn hits; 12m and 17m bands clearly open for #dx ... but no sigs on the bandscope, except computer FT<whatever> stuff. And this is at the weekend, with flux of nearly 150, and K of zero. All really quite depressing.
