Our next Self-Titled Summer spotlight is on number 276 on The List, submitted by BlueGambit86. This is the debut studio album from "The Originator", known by that name for his influence on a number of big acts such as Buddy Holly and Jimi Hendrix moving from blues music to rock & roll. The eponymous title track had already been a number one R&B hit a few years prior to the release of this album, which collects other singles he had released between 1955 and 1958 and showcases the "Bo Diddley beat".

Our next Self-Titled Summer spotlight is on number 276 on The List, submitted by BlueGambit86. Here’s a quick rundown:

Point of origin?: Yes, yes he was! Bo Diddley, i.e., the stage name for Ellas Bates McDaniel, is also known as “The Originator” for his influence on a number of big acts such as Buddy Holly and Jimi Hendrix moving from blues music to rock & roll. Proficient in trombone and violin from an early age (primarily via playing at his church), picking up a guitar is what transformed this musician into Bo Diddley (though he may have picked up that name earlier on). In his teens and early 20s, Diddley busked in various bands, and, by 1951 (at the age of 22), he was a regular at the 708 Club in Chicago. By early 1955, he had a number one R&B hit, the eponymous track “Bo Diddley”. The album we look at here is his debut studio album, leading with that hit and followed by other singles he released between 1955 and 1958.
