Back from a productive and reinvigorating week in Swansea at #RSECon23 . We got a large number of the team along in person and we presented talks, posters, walkthroughs and BoFs. There was work from the Institute of Computing for Climate Science and the @COZL

And some big news for me at #RSECon23: 7 new trustees for the UK Society of Research Software Engineering got voted in, including myself. This is very exciting and I look forward to working with you in future.

#RSECon23 is coming to an end. Thanks to the many volunteers who made that happen and turned it into a great event.

Right now at #RSECon23 a panel on RSEs in academic vs. RSEs in industry. Inevitably there's a lot of discussion on pay and benefits (which I find a bit depressingly reductive), but also useful visibility of the variety of #RSE roles that exist.

It's the last day of #RSECon23. Attended a fantastic session on #ReFrame for automated task running on #HPC yesterday (designed for tests but in this case benchmarks). It was fully hands-on using #Archer2, which really removed the mystery in a good way. This alone would have been worth attending for.

The importance here is to shape the value system so that software engineers do not vanish from the academic world.

I commend the effort to build stories away from h-index

I'm meeting some of the wider Research Software Engineering (#RSEng) community at #RSECon23 and am really struck by how many RSEs have backgrounds in #astronomy/#astrophysics research.

Day 2 at the #RSECon23 in Swansea, and it is a day of workshops and discussions and catching up with friends and meeting new people.
