#Raildagen

The “Meetwagen CTO” was build and used in an era that NS still owned and mantained all the rail infrastructure. It measured the track conditions (alignment, embankment etc). While being considered as a heritage train, it is still in use for research purposes by the Technical University Delft and ProRail. The train has some modern and less modern hardware in it 😉. #Raildagen

The “Stichting Historisch Dieselmaterieel” (next to the Railcenter in Amersfoort were VolkerRail was doing demonstration) was also visitable. They are a small heritage train foundation with around 8 members. Their most recognizable trains are the former :ns_nl_b: 2225 diesel locomotive and the CTO measurement carriage. #Raildagen

Yesterday and Friday were the #Raildagen in The Netherlands. VolkerRail gave some demonstrations in Amersfoort regarding railway track building. On the photos they are demonstrating exothermic welding of two railway tracks. For this process thermite is used which is always a spectacular thing to see.

In the middle a piece of railway track on concrete sleepers is visible (for demonstration purposes). On the track in front some tools are installed where the tracks need to be welded together. Which a gas torch they are preheating the soon-to-be-weld so flames are visible above it.

In the back some people behind a barrier are visible and some buildings and greenery. On the right a van from the company with other tools. Below the tin can the contraption around the railway track is visible.
