Got my old #pebble time round working again!
For a week and then battery bulge popped the glass off and took out the screen with it (pressure built up and bent the LCD.)
Really looking forward to my #repebble shipping in ~December...

I like productivity! So I've found the best #FFT size for #Wakegp. Some experiments about the #parsimonypressure method I have done shows effectiveness of my simple method. Now I'm experimenting on that to find out the sweet spot.
Regarding instructions, I already have done experiments. And the results were unexpected. Adding functions like Sine, Cosine, Logarithm and Square root have negative impact on fitness.
There are still a lot of parameters which I need to fine tune. Mutation rates, number of demes, tournment size, reproduction rate, crossover rate and a lot more. And I also need to experiment with #LexicaseSelection
After all these and when I have runs producing accurate enough programs, I should learn how to optimize the found programs to "summarize" them. I really hope compilers like #LLVM and #GCC already do so. I have doubts but I think most likely, they already have heuristics to summarize programs while keeping the logic.
God willing, when #repebble(the new #pebble #smartwatch) comes to market, I could try to see if I can use it there. Then #repebble would be the first industry application of my research.

Edit: Regarding the simple parsimony pressure method I invented, I'm pretty sure already someone has invented it but I haven't found it in the literature. Just like tons of other things I invent or discover in Math or CS and then realize it has already been discovered or invented.

I preordered a #repebble, the rebooted #pebble smartwatch which will run the now-open-source pebbleOS.
I had the first Pebble as well as a couple of its successors. They have all succumbed to fatal water ingress (rain, in one case). I daily drive a Garmin Instinct 2S solar and it's … fine (the display is good but too small, and theres too many clunky unwanted features).
Nostalgia is expensive, and for a number of reasons I'm betting my chances of actually getting it are about 25%.
@debacle @joeycastillo it looks interesting. But I've got a Bandle.js 2 for a discount (at 80 €) at last FOSDEM, and I'm very happy with it : working very well, simple, good ecosystem and easy to hack.
I'm not sure that the price difference worth it (to be compared to Core Time 2 duo to color and touch screen).
Core Time 2 has microphone/speaker and targets IPX8 (Bandlej.js 2 is IP67, so no shower or swimming), but besides that, they seem very similar.

In short: Pebble will ship from China to non-US customers. With that, US tariffs are not relevant outside of the US.
VAT will be charged locally (or should be expected).

@dolanor I have ordered a new Pebble watch though (the new one, "Core 2 Duo") and plan on making an SDK for #TinyGo.
It has all the features I want from a watch, such as an e-paper display and the ability to write apps and watchfaces for it. I have some thoughts on what my preferred watchface is, so definitely going to look into that.
I am wondering why #repebble (Core Devices LLC) is a U.S. company.
And this is more an economic than a politics question.
The product is manufactured in Asia (China, according to the blog post). The code is open source.
Wouldn’t it be easier to create an e.g. EU or Chinese subsidiary and handle orders from there?
Right now, an order to EU goes along with
- 25 USD shipping costs
- local tax (should be expected)
- the risk of changing tariffs being passed on to the customer
I got excited about the new #Pebble watches being announced & decided to update my 9-years old Time Gear themed Pebble watchface! It now supports all platforms (including the Round & the upcoming Core Time 2) and the weather updates work again!
I've replaced the battery on my Pebble Time Steel and looking forward to charge it again after I've emptied the battery completely for the first time. It's running since 2025-03-21 = around 10 days and it's still at 4%.
Regarding the drops: I wasn't able to wear it all the time (first I've attached the screen using tape and when glueing it back on, a pin of my wristband failed...)

Wat review betreft, wellicht dat je @gadgetbridge erbij kunt betrekken. Dat is natuurlijk direct gelinkt aan Pebble, maar ook interessant voor gebruikers van andere smartwatches. En nu op het hoofd krabben of ze die persoonlijke en medische data nog wel in een Amerikaanse cloud willen opslaan.
My next #repebble is going to easily last over three times longer than my Fitbit Versa 2 I inherited.
