NWS Boulder: Friday will feature what we call a Particularly Dangerous Situation regarding potential for rapid wildfire spread. That's due to very high winds combined with an extremely dry airmass and near record temperatures. Boulder Office of Disaster Management (ODM) is sharing messaging from Xcel Energy regarding a Public Safety Power Shutoff. This shutoff is a preventive action taken during periods of elevated wildfire risk to reduce the chance of power lines starting a fire.
Power outages may last 24 to 72 hours, and possibly longer depending on weather conditions and required safety inspections before power can be restored.
Boulder’s Office of Disaster Management’s role is to share what this means for the community, how to prepare, and how to stay safe.
What to Expect
Power is expected to shut off mid-day on Wednesday, Dec. 17
Outages may last multiple days
Restoration timing depends on weather and safety inspections
Impacts will vary across urban and rural areas

"The National Weather Service and Southern California Edison (SCE) are currently monitoring a period of Red Flag Santa Ana gusty wind conditions expected to impact Ventura County early Tuesday morning through Wednesday. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning that will be in effect from 6am Tuesday through 6pm Wednesday. There will be an extended period of warm weather with dry conditions. Northeast winds are forecasted to be between 15 to 30 mph with gusts from 35 to 45 mph."
