what is flash on veirs mill road?
Montgomery County Department of Transportation is working to implement Flash BRT across the County. The Veirs Mill Road Flash will be a new transit service connecting Wheaton and Rockville with twelve stations along Veirs Mill Road and MD 355. Flash service on Veirs Mill Road will provide faster and more reliable transit service, connecting riders to housing, jobs, the MARC train, and the Metrorail Red Line. The Veirs Mill Road Flash will also include bicycle and pedestrian improvements like continuous sidewalks and safer crossings.

The Burtonsville community is thrilled to welcome back the 33rd Annual Burtonsville Day Celebration, taking place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20. The festivities will kick off with a lively parade along Old Columbia Pike, starting at Paint Branch High School and ending at the Marilyn J. Praisner Community Recreation Center, located at 14906 Old Columbia Pike.

The celebration continues at the recreation center’s parking lot, the Marilyn J. Praisner Library, and Columbia Local Park, featuring:

Live music in partnership with Strathmore
Games, food, and vendors
Health care and government services
Family-friendly activities
Exhibitors and community organizations
This free event draws a large crowd from Burtonsville and surrounding East County communities, celebrating the area’s diversity and community spirit. Since its founding in 1991, Burtonsville Day has honored local creativity and service with awards for parade floats, community initiatives, and antique cars. This year’s theme is Building a Better Community Together.

MCDOT is hosting a US 29 Flash Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Phase 2 public meeting followed by a Corridor Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting on Thursday, Aug. 28 starting at 6 p.m.

There will be two parts to this meeting.
• From 6 - 7 p.m., the meeting will focus on bicycle and pedestrian facilities. The topics presented and interactive activities will be the same as the June meeting.
• From 7 – 8 p.m. the meeting will be the CAC meeting, which will focus on the preliminary design of the BRT facilities.
• Both portions of the meeting are open to the public and community members are encouraged to attend.
