I wish my fellow US citizens a somber Independence Day, full of reflection, maybe a (re)reading of the Declaration of Independence, maybe a visit to a cemetery where the remains of fallen soldiers lie, maybe a visit to the Statue of Liberty, anything to conjure how far the USA has strayed from the path its founders imagined.

It was a noisy night in Kyiv. I counted ten drones passing by my apartment. With each one, I held my breath as it got louder, louder, louder. Is this the one that will hit my building? Then came the Doppler pitch change as the drone flew past, all the while booms and machine gun fire marked defenders’ relentless efforts to intercept the invaders. Glory to the defenders!
Assessments are ongoing. So far, 14 people were injured, with 12 of those now in hospital. I hope everyone recovers.
We’re still under air alert at the present moment. The main onslaught by drones came during the alert that went from 8pm last night until 4:50am this morning. Then another started at 5:04am, for the threat of missiles.
I have unbounded bitterness toward the USA for halting weapons delivery to Ukraine, including defensive weapons. Europe must rally.
