#ScientificVisualization

🧵 Fun little story: I had to lead a workshop (1 h 45 min) about my thesis topic last Wednesday.

The topic was "Facilitating historical empathy in Archaeology through scientific visualization". Since the workshop was pretty short, I ended up coming up with the following idea. (…)

Did an IG takeover of ZHdK‘s Knowledge Visualization account a few days ago where I got to introduce the topic of my MA thesis, historical empathy in archaeological visualization.

I couldn‘t properly export the story, but here‘s a screen recording of the „slides“ for anyone who‘s interested.

5 Questions that relate to my MA thesis

Your input would help me determine which avenues to pursue and which aspects to look into in more detail.

The questions are in the replies to this thread.

Your help and support is very much appreciated and will help me to determine some main factors in and inform major development paths for the project.

Warming stripes (Climatology 🌍)

Warming stripes are data visualization graphics that use a series of coloured stripes chronologically ordered to visually portray long-term temperature trends. Warming stripes reflect a "minimalist" style, conceived to use colour alone to avoid technical distractions to intuitively convey global warm...

MA-Thesis Research: A question to archeologists, anthropologists and historians on here.

When creating reconstructions (illustrations, animations, …), do you consider it important to evoke a sense of empathy towards people depicted in the visualization? Meaning: Do you think it's important that the emotional background / landscape of a scene should also be reflected (or taken into account) in the visualization?

🎨 Hi ! I'm thrilled to share my science illustrations with you all. Take a look at some of my fav pieces that blend the beauty of art with the power of scientific visualization. Let's explore the wonders of science together! 🌟

Feel free to check out my portfolio and let me know what you think!

Out of curiosity: I'm currently getting my MA in Knowledge Visualization, where a lot of emphasis is put on 3D visualization. At uni, the "suggested" software is Maxon Suite (Cinema 4D in particular), but students can use whatever software they prefer. Which brings me to my question:

If you work in scientific visualization, what is your go-to software for 3D visualizations?

(I excluded windows based applications, since I will be working in iOS)

Spent today preparing my #poster for the #AGU22 meeting. It looks good on my computer screen but I am always surprised that it looks less balanced or proportional printed as a A0 poster. I still have a few days to improve. Any tips?

My .

I work in scientific visualisation which can be simply described as turning numbers into pictures for the purpose of understanding. The data generally comes from supercomputer simulations and scientific instruments. I code in julia, c++ and python and Sidefx Houdini is my CG swiss army knife.
