If you've been Watching π Severe Tropical Cyclone Trevor (now Tropical Cyclone Trevor) over the past few days from its landfall just south of Lockhart River, to today using Weipa Airport radar you might want to to change to using Mornington Island radar soon as π Tropical Cyclone Trevor has moved slighly south and the southern eyewall is now visible from Mornington Island radar.
It is now a Category 2 Tropical Cyclone ATCS, and Category 1 SSHWS, it is expected to intensify overnight to a Category 3 Severe Tropical Cyclone ATCS or Category 2 to 3 SSHWS now that it has emerged over the Gulf of Carpenteria.
Gulf SSTs are between 30 and 32ΒΊC, Vertical Windshear is between 5 and 10kts (ideal for intensification), the relative humidity in the mid layer is >80% though there is dry <40% to the west of the system however I think the liklihood of that being ingested and killing off intensification is unlikely as a lot of mid layer humid air is being pulled out from over the Coral Sea into the gulf.
