🌀 Tropical Cyclone Veronica has been Downgraded to Tropical Depression/Low Ex-Tropical Cyclone Veronica by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, despite causing Major Hurricane & Hurricane Forced winds along the coast it never really made landfall (though the strongest part of the storm was situated over land).

Powerful gusts, and Rain can be still expected from this system along the Coast however it doesn't look like it'll regain Tropical Cyclone status in the foreseeable future.

Tropical Cyclone Veronica is the perfect example of a Near hit type impact from a Tropical Cyclone, the storm hasn't officially made landfall, and still may not but because the eyewall has been over land many places along the coast have been gething the worst of the storm (A landfall is when the eye center crosses the coast, eyewall asd edge of the eye don't count)

I think it is safe to say the instruments at Legendre Island Weather Obsevatory be fucked.

They had been and still are in the Eyewall of Tropical Cyclone Veronica (now category 2 ) but they had hours of hurricane forced winds (63+kts) and major hurricane forced winds (96+kts) and then around (12019-03-24) 0630 UTC+8 it went dark.

Himiwari 8 Visible+IR view of Australia, Ex-Tropical Cyclone Trevor is the swirl of cloud near the center of the Northern Territory, the waves of cloud into Queensland are the outer bands of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Trevor that became removed during landfall yesterday and are stimulating some thunderstorms.

🌀 Severe Tropical Cyclone Veronica made landfall today over in Western Australia as a Category 3 storm on both the Aus Scale, and Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale.

Also within range of this image there seems to be an active point of convection in the South Pacific Convergence Zone (an extention of the InterTropical Convergence Zone aka The Monsoon or ITCZ) which might become the focus of a new Tropical Depression in the coming days or weeks.

Since 0325 AWST (UTC+8) winds at Legendre Island weather Observatory hasn't fallen bellow 100km/h, the actual observatory went dark at 0630 so most wind speed measurements are by estimation based on things like Doplar and ASCAT (so indirect)

Major Hurricane Force Winds (96+kts 178km/h, 111mph) have come ashore in some of the coat but it has slowed down, the eye is just about over land now but there was some uncertainty earlier about if it were going to make landfall or stall and start moving west (which was expected after landfall).

🌀 Severe Tropical Cyclone Veronica has weaken to a Category 3 Severe Tropical Cyclone (Australian Tropical Cyclone Scale) though it still has major hurricane winds according to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology and TCWC Perth.

Tropical Storm force (34+kts, 63+km/h, 39+mph) have been lashing the Western Australia coast for a few hours now, some areas are now experiencing hurricane forced winds (63+kts, 117+km/h 74+mph) but that should grow to encompass a lot more of the coast, the Major Hurricane Winds (96+kts, 178+km/h, 111+mph) should start coming ashore over the next 12 hours.

Landfall is expected between Port Hedlands and Dampier. It is expected to intensify back to a Category 4 before landfall. It is expected to stall and take a Easterly direction (towards the west) after landfall emerging back out over the ocean as a Tropical Depression/Low possibly to redevelop.

🌀 Severe Tropical Cyclone Trevor made its second landfall at ~1124 UTC+10 (AEST) as a Category 4 Severe Tropical Cyclone on the Australian Tropical Cyclone Scale and a Category 3 Major Hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind scale.

It made landfall ~100km west of the Northern Territory-Queensland border.

🌀 Severe Tropical Cyclone Veronica is actually a Category 4 Severe Tropical Cyclone on ATCS while being a Category 1 Hurricane on SSHWS, this major divide is due to difference on what qualifies as sustained wind between the two scales with ATCS using 10 min average, where SSHWS uses 1 min average. (ATCS defines it right as that is the universal standard put forward by the World Meteorological Organization's Tropical Cyclone Programm)

Veronica is expected to make landfall around 1500 UTC+10 (AEST) between Whim Creek and Port Hedland as a Category 4 Severe Tropical Cyclone ATCS.

Mornington Island weather observatory is starting to wack up those mm of rains with 🌀 Severe Tropical Cyclone Trevor getting close they're getting some pretty intense rainbands from the Category 4 (Australian Tropical Cyclone Scale).

Wind hasn't changed much, it has increased but not yet to the Tropical Storm force that is expected there during the next few hours.

Landfall is expect just west of the Northern Territory-Queensland border at 1pm today.

63+kts (Hurricane) - ~50km

🌀 Severe Tropical Cyclone Veronica's Eye is poorly visible on IR imagery, it is weird that a Category 4 Tropical Cyclone would have such a filled in eye unless it is weakening.

🌀 Tropical Cyclone Trevor hasn't developed a eye again after its first landfall it stalled not to far off the coast so it has barely had its feet wet, it was forecasted to make Category 3 overnight, it is 0424 UTC+10 (AEST) and based on my Subjective Dvorak Technique Score it is still around a ~3.5T (I haven't checked CIMSS Advanced Dvorak Technique Score but it surely can't be to far off mine) which makes it a mid Category 2 Tropical Cyclone on the Australian Tropical Cyclone Scale, and borderline Category 1 on Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Meaning it has barely made any progress.

Yesterday during 🌀 Severe Tropical Cyclone Trevor's (now Tropical Cyclone Trevor) landfall Lockhart River was just outside the intense Eyewall, they did skim it a bit but they never experienced any of the Hurricane force winds, however they did experience 7 hours of Tropical Storm force.

The center of circulation of Category 1 Tropical Cyclone Trevor is 36km south of Weipa which can be said with a degree of high confidence as it is clearly visible from Weipa radar.

Forecast show it'll likely make landfall a second time as a Category 4 (ATCS) borderline Cat 5 or Category 4 (SSHWS)

Much of the East Portion of the Gulf of Carpenteria is still under Tropical Cyclone Warning with it having the potential to affect those parts within 24 hours or already doing so.

Tropical Cyclone Watch has now been issued for Nhulunbuy to NT/Qld Border and Kowanyama to Pormpuraaw. Tropical Cyclone Watch means Tropical Storm force or Hurricane force winds from the Cyclone may start having impact in 24-48 hours.

🌀 Tropical Cyclone Veronica has reached naming intensity of Category 1 (ATCS), or mid Tropical Storm (SSHWS), forecast show it is unlikely to affect land in the next 3 days however it intensifies to a Category 4 while curving towards the North West Coast of Western Australia.

No Tropical Cyclone Warnings or Watches have been issued for this system as it is very unlikely with its current movement to affect land in the next 48 hours
