Dear Fediary:
Yesterday I was reminded why "digital diogenes" is a good thing, sometimes.
I was talking #shapez w a friend and I wanted to show him my factory, but...
The save was GONE!
SteamDeck let me play it just fine, but my desktop said that it was synced with the cloud and that there were no savs there.
I tried everything, but exporting the .bin on the deck was bugged, and copypasting it on my desktop didn't have any results. Finally I decided to just copy the whole deck shapez folder and replace the desktop folder, and I got a "your file is too old" error.
With help from the shapez server we found that I was playing it on the deck through wine, an old way to ensure cloud save compatibility with Windows; That was why it worked on SteamOS but not on Fedora. I went back to windows, and sure enough, the sav was there! Export, reboot, import, profit!
I knew keeping windows around would be useful someday. <- Launching shapez on fedora using wine would also have worked.
Hope this helps others like me!
