Despite (and because) of this, I anticipate we’ll keep seeing:
- footwear shapes more suited to ease of manipulation by machines than to the functioning of the asymmetric human foot
- use of toxic glues and synthetic materials.

Last week I got it into my head that I want to make my own shoes for the mediaeval fair I'm going to this Friday. Naturally I only started making them yesterday (Monday) and finished today!

The soles came with a pattern which I used for the fronts and as a base for the heel. The heel is the reason I didn't finish these yesterday, as the fit required some tweaking both for the heel and the straps. (which I should've also made longer) They were however pretty painless to make so I'd definitely recommend you give it a go if you're at all interested!

I am going to take a pair of trainers with me on Friday, just in case these decide to break down. 😂

Now onto the two bags I've also decided I need for the fair.... Nothing like last minute panic to get the creative juices flowing!

Espadrille shoe soles and brown linen pieces that will be the coverings, all laying on a blue and red checkered blanket. Next to them are an embroidery scissors cover with a floral print and a metal thimble.

One of the espadrilles with its cover temporarily put together with pins. The heel and toe are covered, the middle is left bare.

The heel has been hand stitches in place and there's a pin marking the place where the heel needs to be taken in to work better.

The same shoe stitched together with the straps in a slightly different place than in the previous photo. The front has been stitched with a light embroidery floss while the back has been stitched with a darker one.
