As you may have seen, the Groypers managing the White House's social media accounts have posted yet another example of fascist Trump AI #slopaganda, which I won't reproduce here in full. However, I find a few details quite telling in terms of the aesthetics of digital fascism and the way generative AI transforms our perception of the past. Against the Gladiator-esque backdrop, you can see a pair of US soldiers in desert camouflage holding back the pseudo-Roman crowd. And the decaying arena, adorned with a tattered American flag, is not only a ruin; it looks as if it is falling apart before our eyes. Furthermore, the crowd is in complete disarray and appears to be actively destroying the arena, only being held back by military force. This is not an image of American triumph, but of an empire in decline, which aligns with the concept of «End Time Fascism» as proposed by Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor. AI #slopaganda does not promise a better future; rather, it anticipates total collapse, from which a messianic Trump could rise again as an undefeatable strongman.

There are an awful lot of AI newsletters out there, but the two which kept appearing in my X ads were Superhuman AI run by Zain Kahn, and Rowan Cheung’s The Rundown. Both claim to have more than a million subscribers — an impressive figure, given the FT as of February had 1.6mn subscribers across its newsletters.
If you actually read the AI newsletters, it becomes harder to see why anyone’s staying signed up. They offer a simulacrum of tech reporting, with deeper insights or scepticism stripped out and replaced with techno-euphoria. Often they resemble the kind of press release summaries ChatGPT could have written."

As gross as it all is, I'm not even remotely shocked or surprised to see the no-talent fascist pricks in the White House posting generative AI #slopaganda. Of course they are.

I'm not even going to bother being outraged that they've co-opted a Ghibli-esque art style to do it. They want us to be outraged, but shitty plagiarism and creative appropriation are the only things generative AI is good for.
