Late night post- I had to respond to this prompt as soon as I saw it. This almost made me want to do movie reviews on YouTube again⊠but since itâs tech related and more of a reality today anyway, enjoy my dream home, the smart house from the 1999 Disney Channel Original Movie Smart House!
Sounds less crazy than if I wrote this say, I donât know even five years back; but that makes this even more exciting to see it unfold. Little Jake would be (and still is) LOSING their mind.
Daily writing prompt Write about your dream home.
View all responses So, letâs imagine a home where you can spill your cereal, and whoopsâno sweat, the carpetâs got your back, literally gobbling up that mess. Youâve gotta admit, thatâs pretty darn cool, right?
Some of my favorite pics from this movie:
And, sure, that whole scary robot mom vibe was kind of a buzzkill, but hey, if it means I get ceilings that display a sunny sky while itâs pouring outside, Iâm all in. Bring on the robot revolution!
Now, picture this: You walk in, and the lights adjust to your moodâfeeling the blues? The walls turn a soothing azure. Party mode? Disco lights commence! Your smart fridge is stocked with all your favorite munchies, which, by the way, it ordered all by itself. A true buddy!
Advertisements But hold your horses, what about your own personal assistant that makes Siri look like a toy? Iâm talking about an AI that not only knows your schedule but also throws in a joke or two to lift your spirits.
Remember when we used to say, âMan, I wish I could download food from the internetâ? Guess what, in this house, you pretty much can. Itâs probably 3D printed and made of plastic, but weâll get there!
And for those moments when youâre feeling a bit extra, the living room transforms into an arcade or a tranquil beach with the sound of waves crashing, all at the command of your voice. Itâs like living in a frigginâ sci-fi movie, except no one gets zapped (unless you count that zingy feeling of joy, âcause thereâs plenty of that).
As for the âscaryâ part of the tech? Nah, weâre keeping things friendly here. The house might be smart, but itâs got the warm heart of a Disney flick. And if the walls start getting too chatty, just a quick âzip itâ will do the trick.
The integration of advanced technology in the home should intended to enhance convenience and comfort, rather than to create any sort of unsettling environment to shove ads in front of our faces. The aim is to maintain a welcoming and hospitable atmosphere, where the technology complements and supports daily life without being intrusive or overwhelming.
Weâre past the days of struggling to get that new device to work, because for the most part, they just⊠do nowadays.
Itâs about striking that balance where the innovative features blend seamlessly with the warmth and familiarity of a cozy home, instead of making your day more complicated. I think this is part of the reason why mixed reality works so well, being able to pin windows where you like and have them stay there in 3D space has this weird effect on me where every time I see it itâs still just as magical.
The real key is the magic we share with others; just like in a heartwarming Disney movie, the focus is on creating a space that brings joy and delight to those who inhabit it. We can do this while also ensuring that the technology remains unobtrusive and easily manageable. Itâs part of the credo I pledged to uphold when I worked for Apple. The way I look at it, if I shine my light on everyone else bright enough, the rays are bound to bounce back to me and give me a tan.
So there you have it, the dream smart house where you can kick back, relax, and let the house do the heavy lifting. And yeah, you might find me talking to the walls, but in this case, they actually talk back. Isnât the future grand?
Catch you on the flip side,âwhere our carpets clean up the spilled milk before we even have a chance to decide wether or not we where going to cry over it.
Talk to you Monday!
