Uhhhh there are sooo many options of this SMLight Zigbee USB adapter thing

SLZB-07
SLZB-07P7
SLZB-07P10
SLZB-07MG24

It’s hard to find information about the differences. Which one is the best? Which of them support both Zigbee and Thread/Matter?

Friday morning: I've never held a microcontroller, Why did I buy a soldering iron, this seems too complicated, What even is YAML?

Sunday afternoon: I've built four thermometers and integrated them into my homeassistant setup! I'm so cool!

There were some steps I think could have been better described in a guides I found. I'm thinking of maybe doing a writeup, but I don't know if anyone would read it, that's not my usual style of writing 🤓

I spent so long trying to get a Z-wave door lock to include and it really did not want to do it securely so none of the lock features worked :corgi_roll: Weh. Everyone keeps saying to move to Z-wave JS UI instead of the built in Home Assistant integration but that sounds hard.

@tofu I like it. Your “for now” comment is on point; there is always more to do!

For comparison, here is my 19” 15U rack , also a work in progress: PDU, ventilation, 16 port switch, 2U mount for up to 8 Raspberry PI s or NAS., and a 8x KVM HDMI/USB switch to connect the RPis to a small monitor, keyboard and mouse on top. I use one RPi for #HomeAssistant, another for home security cameras and other video, one for HomeBridge, one for Pi-Hole, and other for experimentation and testing. A UPS is in back. I Iove that the rack is on wheels because I frequently move it to get access to the back.

🔌🤖 Oh joy, another attempt to jam physical devices into like a toddler shoving toys into a blender. GitHub's latest brainchild, , aspires to turn your home into a circus of malfunctioning , all while you "collaborate outside of code"—because who doesn't want their life to resemble a haunted house? 🎪👻

@Bronzie I’m partial to the #Meross smart outlets outlets, model mss315 in particular. Zigbee set up is super easy, highly reliable, and you get good energy use data from each one that works out of the box. #HomeAutomation #HomeAssistant

I'm after weather station recommendations. Wind speed and direction, rain, temperature and humidity are essential and UV/light would be good. I need output via MQTT (I'm not averse to some 433MHz/SDR type solution).
Does anybody have any recommendations from personal experience?

After a crazy amount of time, effort, and money, "the device" is complete and I can perform stupid home automation tricks. Behold the 2 channel HomeLink bridge.

A white project box is opened with the lid to the side. It contains a two channel gate controller, but the momentary contact relays are wired to two Zigbee moisture sensors. The sensor batteries have been removed and they are instead hardwired to a DC-DC buck converter.

Last October feels like a decade ago, but our friends at GitHub shared the perfect video from Universe '24 to remind us how a personal project became an open source movement. 😌

See how Mona uses Home Assistant without giving up control 🤩
