#SnowyRiver

#FlashbackFriday - Freeze Framed.
Part of the #MarbleRiver in #Winter of 2022.
Taken on a trip towards Port Alice, after 5 days of blizzard conditions. Things cleared up & roads were safe enough to adventure out again. We hunkered down at a cheap motel in Port Hardy while the blizzard blew through. The only places we could buy foods/drinks were a gas station & pub - every other business that had food was shutdown.

Black and white image of a river winding through a snowy forest. The river flows from left to right, with partially frozen sections and open water reflecting the overcast sky. Snow-covered banks line the river on both sides, and dense evergreen trees, heavily laden with snow, form the forest.

Marlo estuary is where the Snowy River reaches the ocean and Bass Strait. It's very rare to see a dead-calm, almost glassy Bass Strait. Today was as perfect a day as you will get in this part of the world. Just a very gentle offshore wind barely moving the leaves of the Banksia trees.

Looking south over the mouth of the Snowy River towards Bass Strait on clear, still spring day. The colours blend from the green and grey coastal vegetation to the dark blue of the river estuary, to the white sand dunes, the bright blue ocean then the pale blue sky showing some faint wisps of white and grey clouds.
