I finally got my 3d-printed Nautiloid fully printed (minus three small parts, naturally). Assembling from an exploded-view picture is challenging. Storage will be a challenge, too. It's approx. 16" x 20". I'm going to need a crap-ton of paint.
I've had the files for years, but my big 3D printer bit the dust during the pandemic, and dealing with resin just got to be too much of a hassle.

A TTRPG sandbox with a number of active storylines can offer a multitude of options for adventure, a videogame sandbox is necessarily limited by what can be written, coded, and tested. This is the power of TTRPGs. They do not have to have every possible event covered up front like a videogame does. The world can change because of the player characters, or in spite of them. Take Skyrim as an example. The town of Whiterun will stay as it is until after an incident known as the Battle of Whiterun. If you as the player do not trigger the battle the town stays the same. In a TTRPG, that battle can happen without the player characters being involved. They return to a location and find it has been ravaged by war. In videogames a sandbox is typically an open world with a major questline, some secondary questlines, and various side quests. You have freedom to take things in whatever order you prefer but unless you as the player get involved thing rarely if ever changes. 2/4 #TTRPG #DnD #Spelljammer
I realised a problem with terminology in TTRPGs which comes about because we confuse them with videogames. A few years ago our gaming group started a sandbox D&D campaign which I DM. Our previous campaign was more conventional, but this one offered a big open world (several actually, it is Spelljammer), with events that occurred regardless of the actions of the player characters. Last Week Tonight rebranded a minor baseball team this year to the Moon Mammoths. I immediately thought #Spelljammer needs moon mammoths. Gamma World had the awesome Triphants. Had my first PC death yesterday after 38 session in my spelljammer campaign. I was really really hesitant to do it, but at one point it just happened.
It was cathartic. There were so many emotions. The other PCs pulled out all their tools to try to mitigate it.
Now I'm planning a solo session with the player of that dead PC in the afterlife. It'll be a LOT of fun!

Ok, so I've been tinkering with different material for my glorious return to #ADnD2e and I think I've settled on some things.
Thing the 1: I'm going to use the core rules CD as much as I can, its still dynamite after all these years.
Thing the 2: We playing in #Greyhawk! Am I super familiar with Greyhawk? NO, but there is lots of accessible AD&D material for it. And we can #Spelljammer if we want!
Thing the 3: I'll probably play #BECMI #Mystara with my kids!
I think I've decided to run "First Quest" its setup as an intro to #ADnD 2e for new players so it'll be an easy way to ease myself back in (I havent been able to run AD&D for 15+ years and I havent run anything for like 5 years).
Also, I didn't realize it was set on #Mystara (as much as simplified starter adventures are set anywhere), and the third one introduces #Spelljammer! This may just end up a one-shot, but I'm hoping for a regular game.
Also we can use CORE RULES!
