Medieval glass in Llangadwaladr Church on #Anglesey / Ynys Mon. Below Christ we see the 7thC Welsh King Cadwaladr whose grandfather, King Cadfan, founded a monastery here. It's believed that in later life Cadwaladr chose to be a monk. Both he and Cadfan were buried on the site. #StainedGlassSunday

15th century angel. Made in Norwich, the stained glass is now part of the collections at the Burrell Collection in Glasgow. 📸 My own.

The magnificent Jesse Window in the village church at Llanrhaeadr, near #Denbigh. It's thought to date from the early 16th century and may have been lifted from Basingwerk Abbey in #Flintshire at the time of its Dissolution. The most complete #medieval window in North #Wales. #StainedGlassSunday

This charming lancet window is in St Lawrence's, Church Stretton, #Shropshire. When I snapped it, I assumed it was modern but apparently it dates from the 18th century. #StainedGlassSunday

The countdown to Christmas has begun with the arrival of Advent and who knew, it's also been designated Stained Glass Sunday!
So, two good reasons to post this example of some rather beautiful stained glass that I photographed on a visit to the Grade I listed Church of St Lawrence in village of Warkworth, Northumberland.

Three beautiful stained glass windows from the Church of St Lawrence in Warkworth, Northumberland. The middle panel feature the new-born Christ on the lap of his mother Mary with the two side panels depicting the Magi and shepherds paying homage.

St Andrew - on St Andrew’s Day - in St Andrew’s Church, Corbridge, Northumberland #StainedGlassSunday

Colour photo taken from inside the church depicts an arched window with St Andrew in red and green robes holding the X-shaped cross, blue glass background. Looks very bright compared to the black surround. Photo:copyright Coralie Mills 2025

Unusual stained glass in St Chad's Church, Farndon, in #Cheshire, both for its date and subject matter. It was commissioned in about 1660 by #Royalist squire William Barnston to celebrate his success defending the city of Chester from #Parliamentarian forces in 1643-5. #StainedGlassSunday #CivilWar

One last one for this Adam'n'Eve fest. A return to Eden in Margaret Edith Aldrich Rope's great 'Redemption of Creation' east window at Far Headingley, Leeds. Installed in 1922, it was one of her first commissions, and was perhaps never bettered, certainly not on this scale. #StainedGlassSunday

3/3 Life after Eden by NJ Cottingham, 1852 in Ely Cathedral. Left to right, Adam delves, Eve spins, the infant Cain and Abel play; Cain and Abel at work in the fields; Adam and Eve grieve for the dead Abel while Cain flees. The soap opera that is the Book of Genesis. #StainedGlassSunday

After Eden. Adam and Eve with the young Cain and Abel after the Expulsion from Paradise, by Herbert Hendrie, 1931, in Paisley Abbey. Adam tends his fruit trees, Eve spins, the two boys read and study flowers. Maybe it's not going to be so bad after all. #StainedGlassSunday
