A 14th Century arch used to create an entrance into a late 20th Century museum building. This is the Burrell Collection in Pollok Park in Glasgow, designed by Barry Gasson Architects and opened in 1983. This is one of several old stone arches incorporated into the building, including the 16th Century Hornby Portal, through which the main part of the museum is entered.

The Burrell Collection in Glasgow's Pollok Park. It reopened in March 2022 after a six-year refurbishment and the end result is amazing. It houses some 8,000 works of art gifted by Sir William Burrell to Glasgow City Council in 1944. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/gla

The townhouse of William Burrell, the ship-owner and art collector who donated the Burrell collection to the city of Glasgow. Part of Great Western Terrace in the West End of the city, it was designed by Alexander 'Greek' Thomson and was built in 1869. Burrell bought it in 1902.

#trans #BurrellCollection #Glasgow

A museum plaque, listing: "Guanyin: A Transgender lcon. Starting in the 900s Buddhists in China transformed the male god Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara into the femal goddess of compassion, Guanyin. Some trans people feel this gender-fluid figure reflects their life experiences." Three items are described: "Figure of Guanyin, 1662-1722: Trans people have always existed and are rooted in history. Figures like Guanyin reflect this, showing that gender and identity are not always fixed." "Figure of Bodhisattva, 550-577: This Buddhist religious figure looks neither male nor female. Other androgynous Buddhist icons are sometimes shown with fleshier bodies." "Figure of Guanyin, 1662-1722: Guanyin has always represented the basic human values of compassion and kindness. Trans people deserve respect and understanding. Trans rights are human rights, Be more Guanyin."
