I put together another quick #lowpoly version of a #starcontrol2 ship that looks like it came straight from early '90s gaming hardware. I edited the original Super-Melee GUI a bit so the ship could have more room to "breathe". Made in #blender
One of my partner’s favorite games is #StarControl2, particularly the open-source fork. I finally decided to give it a try and we’re playing together. So far it’s delightful and surprisingly modern in narrative if a bit dated on mechanics. I can definitely see the influence it had on Mass Effect, No Man’s Sky and choice-driven RPGs in general.
I can’t help but wonder if Craig Alanson played it too, it reminds me a ton of Expeditionary Force, one of my favorite recent sci-fi book series. The client species hierarchy and the wacky aliens in particular.
The Steam version is free and easy to run on modern systems (at least Mac).

Made more progress on the game!!! This update took me the longest, cause I had to draw a bunch of steampunk mechanical components.
I think I need to draw a few more ornaments to place inside the ship to make it feel a little less empty but I feel like the main game components are coming together now...

The first trailer and #Kickstarter announcement just dropped this morning for #FreeStars: Children of Infinity. This is going to be the proper sequel for #StarControl2: #TheUrQuanMasters by the original devs, they just can't call it #StarControl anymore since they don't own the trademark. This is my most anticipated game in development currently!
