Last week at #BachoTeX we (Tove, Mikael, Willi, Hans) conducted the first in a series of experiments and presentations dealing with accessibility. After all, why bother more about pdf than of the tool that makes it.
– We tested if QR codes were easier on users than TeX error messages (experiment conducted with high end wooden ear-tags with QR codes made by Willi, who else) because after all humans are good in pattern recognition

Never been to a ConTeXt Meeting? Don’t worry, the group of regular participants is open and friendly, and you don’t know what you are missing, unless you come at least once.
Our choice of #bibliography styles is still quite limited, we have APA, APS, and Chicago; SBL is externally available, and on the developers mailing list someone just offered to complete their personal IEEE style, if anyone would be interested.
Support for CSL is in a proof-of-concept stage, AFAIK.

Forget about \over !
Use \frac for fractions.
\over is unreliable and obsolete; it was the only macro that used extensive backward parsing and for that it needs unsemantical grouping; it was not typographically optimized.
Hans writes:
The most significant "change" is that columnsets are in the process of being replaced which involves a "change in approach". As a consequence, when you use that mechanism – we're not sure how many actually do – and want the old code to kick in you need to load the "oldcolumnsets" module.

– Hans & Mikael are working on column sets (mostly for magazine layout), the results are already impressive. Parallel text streams are possible (e.g. for translations). Wait for "beyond-pages.pdf".
– Keith implemented a MP function for Perlin noise (colored “clouds”).
– To avoid hyphenation in single places, don’t use \hbox{} but {\nohyphens }, it doesn’t create a box. There’s also \noligatures and \nokerns.

Im letzten Vortrag des Tages beschäftigt sich Hans Hagen mit „The Performance Narrative“ und gibt einen Überblick über die unterschiedlichen #TeX Compiler, deren Resourcennutzung, ein Paar Einblicke in Unterschiede zwischen #LuaMetaTeX und #LuaTeX sowie Faktoren, die Kompilierungszeiten beeinflussen.
OH: Warum sollte man eine Tagung in Saarbrücken abhalten, wenn man das auch in Weimar machen kann.
