Having a clear out of a little cupboard when my better half found this Daily Mirror article from 1995. It quotes me (when I edited What's New In Electronics magazine) on the move to remote home automation. I predicted the remote control device to control lights, vacuum cleaners, etc from anywhere in the world, more than a decade before Smart phones were invented.
