"Love patrol" - The Dooleys

Ilford's finest had almost exactly one year making hits, this was their final chartbound tune.

After fame, they went their separate ways. Three members went to make music in South Africa, Jim the singer sold scooters, and Kathy married Andrew Mackintosh (DS Grieg in "The Bill").

"Honey I'm lost" - The Dooleys

Ilford's finest were just about to have their highlight year, reaching the top ten with "Wanted" and "The chosen few".

It's the first single release with young sister Helen on keyboards, she joined singing siblings Marie, Anne, Kathy, and Jim; and guitarists John and Frank. Seven Dooleys in one band remains a record.

"He was beautiful" - Iris Williams. Ah, "Cavatina", latterly the theme from Take Hart's "Gallery" section. With an added vocal line, and subject to pumpkinification by The Top of the Pops Orchestra.

"The chosen few" - The Dooleys. Rather good, this; loud and sassy, Looks rather like The Manhattan Transfer, but with a bit of an edge.

Tune reminds me a bit of "Sugar sugar". Quite how they can call four singers and a full "a few" is another question.

Peter Powell welcomes us to our first #TOTP Mystery Year.

"Wanted" by The Dooleys plays during the chart. They were a family group from Ilford, it's the first of a handful of hits.
