I'm currently watching 'The New Look'. It exists entirely on the verge of being really great, and so it's just really frustrating. You couldn't ask for a more talented cast, Ben Mendelsohn, Juliet Binoche, Maisie Williams, John Malkovich. I mean yes please and again, thank you muchly.
But...
It's a French story about the French Resistence during the Nazi occupation of France and how French clothing designers, Coco Chanel and Christian Dior lived through, survived and came back from that, complete with dialogue with Germans about French language set primarily in Paris... in English. Which, as an English speaker whose only language skill is read-tv, I find absolutely mind-boggling. Moreover, because the decision to affect French accents by the cast is in stark contrast to the aforementioned Binoche.
