Ich bin aktuell echt nicht der schnellste Leser, aber mit Palins #Erebus bin ich nun durch. Lesenswerte Geschichte; perfekte Ergänzung zur Lektüre von #TheTerror, dank der ganzen Fotos, Karten und Fakten, aber auch so ein spannender Einblick in die Zeit der großen Expeditionen des 19. Jahrhunderts, inkl. des britischen Nationalstolzes, von dem sich auch der Autor wohl nicht gänzlich freimachen kann - auch wenn das merkwürdig klingt, falls man Palin sonst nur als #MontyPython-Mitglied kennt.

I definitely do not remember the dying consumptive screaming “HE WANTS US TO RUN” the first time I watched this show. When it gets relatively cold and dark here where I live I’ll have to rewatch all of it.

Ungefähr halb durch mit der Geschichte der #Erebus - und eins muss man Palin lassen: er kann unterhaltsam sowie gut (vor-)lesbar schreiben. Das Buch ist eine richtig wohltuende Korrektur und Ergänzung zu Dan Simmons' #TheTerror und sollte in meinen Augen Pflichtlektüre sein, bevor man sich auf die Horrorfahrt in die Arktis macht. Besonders Crozier und Franklin aber auch die ganzen Beziehungen in London zu den Rosses und der Admiralität werden viel fasslicher. Die tollen Karten sind ein Bonus. 😍

Da ich noch fast zwei Wochen auf den nächsten #Hornblower warten muss, vertreibe ich mir nach #TheTerror, #TheWager und #TwelveShipwrecks jetzt die Zeit mit #Erebus, Michael Palins ausführlicher Erzählung zur Geschichte dieses Schiffes. Das Ende kennen wir ja schon, aber die Fahrten vorher waren wohl auch nicht gerade langweilig. #AdmiralsLektüre

I remember watching the first few episodes of #TheTerror when it first aired, but fell off for reasons I don’t recall. I think I’ll try to finish it this time, but one great advantage of watching on streaming - no commercials to wreck the feeling of immersion.

I should have watched this in the snow and ice this winter, but oh well. Perhaps I’ll rewatch it the next time there’s a blizzard here. Also, the indigenous art and related motifs are awesomely bleak and intense.

Letzter #MeerfilmMittwoch mit #TheTerror (2018): Im unangenehmsten, letzten Teil der Reise kämpfen die letzten Überlebenden nicht mehr gegen die Natur, sondern traurigerweise gegeneinander - und ringen dabei auch um ihre Menschlichkeit, insbesondere der arme Mr. Goodsir. Das weltliche Ende der Serie ist traurig, bemerkenswert und irgendwie tröstlich nach allem, was zwischenzeitlich geschehen ist. Ausgleichende Gerechtigkeit und so.

Nachdem alle technischen Probleme ausgeräumt sind, kanns am heutigen #MeerfilmMittwoch endlich mit #TheTerror (2018) weitergehen. Mit Folge 7 verlassen wir die Schiffe (*schnüff*) und begeben uns auf einen langen und gefährlichen Fußmarsch über das Eis. Der Kampf ums Überleben beginnt.

I finished #TheTerror. I swear that Hickey always has this expression on his face like if your friend started making heart eyes at him in the bar, you'd be like, "Nuh uh. He's bad news." Like you can tell he's an asshole, but nothing he ever says is actually *rude*.
