Dramatic thunderheads drift over the far shore of a tidal bay with exposed mangrove flat. It's hard to tell sea from land, but fully exposed pioneering mangroves show that the tide is out, although shining pools and runnels remain. The scene is dark, it's dusk and the sun has nearly set behind clouds out of shot. In the foreground is a dense mangrove forest along the shore.

A dense forest of mangroves lines a tidal creek bank. It is low tide, and all of the mangroves root systems are exposed, so they all look as though the shore has been washed away. Somewhat surprisingly, the mangroves are all much the same height, same distance apart, and form a perfectly straight line along the creek bank, looking more like an artistic pattern than real life. The repeated horizontal patterns of roots, then thin, pale white trunks, then bushy foliage create a series of patterns across the image.

Looking down over the edge of a heavily eroded rocky cliff at Nightcliff bay. Erosion and exposure have produced highly contrasting areas of red, white, and brown, as well as a gently convoluted surface. Below the cliff a gentle tide washes around on sand below the bottom off the exposed cliff. Further out, the water is a turbid aqua.

The bay is dotted with pioneer mangroves living beyond the dense shoreline colony, and the scene is a strange mixture of sea and land, just as the flat itself is a fluid mixture of land and water.
