Strange how some things we just accept as normal things and use them, without giving it a second though.
I've started to challenge and review new things I hear now, and feel way better about my absorption of new things!
@nixCraft guy said he is SDE 2 which is Jr position, which requires mentoring. Remote mentoring rarely works well. A Jr employees need face-to-face so they can learn and grow. The situation here is not beneficial for the company, wasted resource, and terrible for the employee who can’t learn the skills necessary to get a better job. He needs to quit and is not doing himself any favors. But since I’m not him and don’t care for Amazon, it is good for a laugh :masto_lol: #twocents

@wimpy I see it as an issue on both sides. A #cdn should handle huge spikes in traffic. I would look at more details of how the CDN is being leveraged. There are some settings to tweak to improve performance.
On the other side, #Mastodon should fix this issue. It's sounds like a bad design smell. Each instance should cache the link preview at the minimum. It shouldn't hit the source for per follower. #twocents

Ich hab #Precht früher oft gern zugehört und bin ihm dankbar, dass er an so manchen Stellen die Debatten um sinnvolle Äußerungen bereichert hat (z.B. Thema Bildung). Mit der Zeit nervte er halt manchmal.
Dass er aber nen Podcast mit Lanz macht, hab ich erst garnicht glauben wollen (mir wird schon von Spuren von Lanz schlecht) und ich hab ihm das nie verziehen.
Und dass jetzt alle auf ihn draufspringen wie die Hools empfinde ich als seine gerechte Strafe für diese Geckenhaftigkeit.

I must say I really don’t like your idea that “favouriting” a post is faint praise and people should defer to boosting.
I click the little star button to show the poster that I’ve read and appreciated what they wrote.
I only boost things that fit with my specific interests. That way if people are interested in the same things I’m interested in they scroll through the things I’ve posted and boosted and see a coherent set of posts (without my feed being gummed up with things I’ve appreciated while browsing, but aren’t really key topics of interest to me).

@RiskFromHome @adorkable I've found the preview aspect refreshing, and I don't hesitate to click to read. It's nice to give my brain a low-effort preview of the point of the ensuing paragraph, so if I don't feel like thinking about that topic right now, I can keep scrolling. It feels more mentally restful than rapidly parsing the first two lines to determine what the topic of the post will be before reading. #twocents

I miei #twocents su #mastodon (visto che ancora non mi sono espressa): l'ho preferito all'istante perché ancora non ci sono le "bolle" ma più che altro non ti senti tipo ghettokompagno all'interno di social mainstream (ha senso? non mi pare)
Per bolla intendo ad esempio i seguaci dei Wu Ming o le conventicole (come dicevano nel famoso film di Virzì!) romane dove se non sei d'accordo ti appreparano la crocifissione. Ecco, a me sinceramente di stare dentro quelle "bolle" non me ne fotte un cazzo
