Tonight there was no Cubs Meeting.
Except there was.
We had our Scout Group Awards (*cough* AGM) Night.
And this year there were Young People! Lots of them! And from all Sections! And they brought their adults!
I represented our Beaver Leaders first, then did my Cub Team Leader duties, reading our Section Reports and handing out their awards with assistance from a Beavers Young Leader and Cubs colleague respectively.
Lovely to see so many there. 😀 ⚜️ 🏆
2/2 The Cubs thought about 3 related extreme weather scenarios (heavy rain, flooding, emergency accommodation) & had to decide out of the selection of equipment (paper representations) which 3 things they would want in each scenario & at the end choose the 5 they thought suited most situations. They rotated between each rather than tackle them simultaneously as a Pack.
The activities went well but my delivery of the subject & ceremonies was sub par this week.
Tonight the Beavers celebrated VE Day with some art and then a feast.
All outside, as it was a lovely evening.
Even the Cub Leader was fed. Yummy sandwiches, cake and crisps. Much appreciated as I had come straight from helping at junior tennis and hadn’t eaten.

I’m sat, out of the heat, collating and summarising the last year at Cubs for our Group AGM (my second, and again as the only CSL/CTL attending, though this year I am the only one).
I was pleased with last year’s Section Report so will be using it as the basis of my composition for this year. Nobody turned up to our AGM apart from Group Leaders, board members & one of our District Commissioners last year, so we’re turning it into an Awards Evening this time.
Tonight at #Cubs our Young People completed the Earth Tribe badge (Cubs version) and got further with their Naturalist badge.
We went for a wander in the local woodland and they identified the nature, working through a set sheet as they travelled. When we got to our destination the Cubs, in small groups, chose a small area to designate as their micro Wildlife Reserve/National Park and then told the rest of the Pack why they chose to protect that area.
After the driest April for some time, our scouting camp this weekend will be blessed with rain and wind. Weather will return to pseudo summer on Monday, as per the norm. #typical #ukscouting #canvas #scotland #getoutdoors
#scouts last night was a bit of a chat about invasive species and conservation, then a look around the scout field then a walk down a sunny countryside track to see if we could find any invaders!

I have opinions about the way Young Leaders are treated in UK scouts and they are not positive.
It all went very well.
We started with a game called “Submarine”. I have no idea why it’s called that - it’s a number of different sized circles drawn on the floor, with chalk.
The boys have 5 seconds to get into the circles and those that don’t make it are out.
Then a circle is erased and we go again.
Repeat.
They love it.
Then we did some bases all about Home Safety.
A lot of fun was had by all.

Last evening at Cubs we did a few parts of the Home Help badge (Ironing, Sewing and putting a duvet cover on)
To complete the Home Help badge, I’ve requested photographic evidence that they have:
1. Helped to sort out the washing. Load and unload the washing machine.
2. Clean and tidy the living room
3. Clean two of the following: windows, silver, brass-work, basin or cupboard.
The parents have all commented that they “like this homework” 😂
I am steeling myself for a night at Cubs. Had a long day at work and really not in the mood!
I know it’ll be great when I get there.
