Visiting my local Scout store.

The building on the left (across the street) is the Whipple Federal Building. It’s the usual destination for people detained by ICE/CBP in Minnesota. This is the back of the building.

GOOD NEWS FOR LOCAL SCOUTS AND LEADERS: it’s safe to visit BaseCamp, the store, and offices. A store employee tells me that the protests focus on the front. No reports of violence or tear gas back here.

Got a hardly used second-hand Berghaus 3-Season sleeping bag for a tenner. Great condition.

Not going to pass up an opportunity, I nearly bought one of these New in Tiso sale the other week!

Needed a better, and warmer, sleeping bag now that I’m camping semi-regularly.

I’ll upgrade again (e.g. lighter, non-synthetic) if I’m more regular & more wide-ranging in the nature of the Camp I go on. 🏕️

Will probably depend on whether the Scout Leaders invite me to some of their Camps.

Just did an online training module 'Diversity & Inclusion' from our national #scouts organisation. Quite engaging and well done.

I think I was already a bit more aware of inclusive behaviour in the domains of ability/disability, sexuality, culture, etc., but I did pick up quite a few new aspects.

What really stuck was the phrasing/framing of things most chalk down as disability to be an 'impairment', and 'disability' being the context everyone is in that causes boundaries/obstacles to those with impairments.

- the highest Lego towers, but they had to support a small plastic bowl on top
- the longest span dried spaghetti and marshmallow bridge

Then finished the night by playing Crab Football.

A 55-year-old man from Rotterdam has been arrested on suspicion of {sex} crimes at a Rotterdam scouting {group}. The police received information last month that a number of underage children may be victims of this. The scouting volunteer was arrested today.

As a Scouting America volunteer I wonder how other organizations try to protect young members from molestation.
