Both men were seen trading words and blows on a United Nigeria flight. A viral video of the clash drew loud calls for firm action.
NCAA warns against unruly behaviour
Achimugu said he first saw the post while sitting on another flight for duty. Because crew were about to start taxi, he quickly requested basic details from the poster.
He planned to send a screenshot to airline safety officers so they could investigate fast. After landing at a transit airport, he checked his comment section again. There he met insults from users who felt his questions were an attack.
The spokesman said he often answers those same social media users day and night. He added that asking clear questions about public behaviour is part of his work. For now, he said, he would ignore the abuse and focus on facts.
Achimugu stressed that there is no tolerance for rage or shouting on aircraft. He noted that both men often preach calm behaviour to their many followers online.
While waiting for full reports, he said he had contacted airline staff for details. He wondered if the pilot had removed both men or allowed them travel to destination. If they completed the trip, he warned, the crew could still face questions.
He said the actions of both men placed every other passenger at clear risk. According to him, crew members and the aircraft itself were also exposed to danger.
Police statements and next steps
Achimugu reminded passengers that the NCAA has spent years teaching simple safety rules. He cited past warnings over unruly passengers shared through campaigns and media briefings.
In this case, he insisted, no excuse can justify what happened onboard. He explained that personal grudges must wait until passengers reach the terminal or leave airport grounds.
Police sources said both men were taken to the Delta State airport command after the incident. They are now giving written statements on the clash and their actions onboard.
Airport officers are expected to send their reports to the NCAA once questioning ends. From there, the regulator and airline lawyers will decide the next legal steps.
Achimugu said he would issue a detailed statement once he receives all official reports. He is currently travelling but expects new information before or shortly after his next landing. For now, he urged Nigerians to remain calm and allow investigators finish their work.
