So #WhatsApp (for me here) replaced "Search" with "Ask Meta AI or Search". Now when you type in the search box it suggests prompts that you can send to Meta AI. Where do those suggestions come from? Well I just blocked graph.whatsapp.com in my local DNS and poof, no more suggestions. So... it's no longer possible (short of DNS trickery) to search WhatsApp messages locally, without leaking the queries to Meta?
(yes I'm already using #Signal, looking for evidence to convince others to join me)

Updated to the new web thing #WhatsApp and I can't really complain too much, in terms of that it could've been way worse. A few shortcuts for convenience miss but it's usable. Element and Signal please take this as inspiration. It's ridiculous such BS like WhatsApp still has the best accessibility/usability after all.
This is obviously bad from #whatsapp, but also, the way the journalist describes what the chatbot does, as if it had intentions, is pretty bad too.

No, the chatbot isn't "trying to negotiate", and is not "attempting to appear useful". It's a program that follows programming rules to output something that looks like English langage. It doesn't have desires or intentions, and it cannot lie because it doesn't know what truth is.

@daniel Good point! With Signal Foundation I'm confident they'll never introduce ads because they're a nonprofit unlike #WhatsApp which got sold to Meta eventually. Still Signal service and app are single points of failure.
What we actually need is messaging infrastructure with the quality of Signal but in a federated manner.
I really liked Conversations but the Signal protocol seems to have won over #XMPP so far.

Zur Zeit führt #WhatsApp die #Zwangswerbung in den #Statusmeldungen ein. Das gibt bestimmt wieder viele Wechsler - und bestimmt auch zu #Threema.
Könntet Ihr das nicht zu einer #Werbeaktion nutzen und Threema für einen gewissen Zeitraum #kostenfrei anbieten? Das würde nach meiner Überzeugung und meinem Dafürhalten vielen den Wechsel bzw. überhaupt den Zugang zu Threema #erleichtern.
