A few weeks ago my friend and I visited #Waihi and decided to do the Orokawa Bay #walk. We had perfect weather and enjoyed a picnic when we reached the bay.

If you do this walk you will need to watch the tides as the track from the Waihi end might not be accessible at high tide. The beach at Orokawa bay is not deemed safe for swimming due to rips. In some places the track has not been well maintained and you basically walk in or beside a ditch (washout?). It was roughly 45min each way.

To the right, in the distance is a tree covered hill.A view along a white sand beach. On the left are lare Pohutukawa trees overhanging the beach. In the distance is the end of the bay, with a tree covered hill sloping down to meet the blue water.A view looking up a dirt walking track. There are green trees either side of the track. On the track, protruding tree roots are visible. A tree has fallen across the track, it's trunk and large branch creating almost a doorway that walkers need to pass through.
