You gain new abilities, more hit points, all that goodness by declaring a Boast, and accomplishing it.
Maybe you decide you’ll save a settlement, or ruin one. Declare it, then the GM will drive the story that way. This may take some balancing with a larger party, but most of my boast ideas are smaller. Things like ‘spare a worthy enemy’ or ‘kick someone down a deep hole’. I want boasts to help propel story AND player growth. A sort of two for one.

My son has been watching a lot of archaeology documentaries, like a lot, and today I saw a photo of ancient Greek architecture.
This immediately led to thoughts about #dnd and #ttrpg in general, as well as #Wasters. So buckle up, this may ramble.

I think DnD shines best when you’re dungeon crawling. Big surprise, it’s not called Ballrooms and Beholders, although that game sounds sick.

I’ve written a bit about #Wasters, but what IS it?
Wasters is a Caltrop Core #ttrpg about the adventurers, heroes and bastards of a postapocalyptic world as it starts to come back together.

The characters are a cut above the usual scavvers, raiders and traders and are instead the problem solvers of the new world, fighting, exploring, and making a bloody name for themselves across the land.
It’s a bit Fallout, a bit OSR, a bit of everything I like in games.

Got Gear finalized and threw together a fistful of examples of ‘unique gear’. The magic items of the post apocalypse.

Brand New Crocs: Take +1d when rolling to sneak around or generally move quietly.

Genuine Japanese Katana (I promise): Add +1 to all damage rolls.

GPS Uplink: Travel at double speed with no penalty.

High Powered Ammo: Add +2 to all damage roll to unarmored targets.

Armor in #Wasters
Every enemy you face in Wasters has a Scavenge value.
For instance a Froglet (palm sized and hungry for meat) is a d2, while the ubiquitous Guardbot (man sized, metal, dangerous) is a d6.
In the newest version of Wasters that value is the number rolled for three things that are decided between narratively by the player.
You can choose to take Armor from the dead foe (the Guardbots steel body becomes plating for a vest), Rations to get you through the days (roast Froglet yum)

*Inventory and Gear in #Wasters *
Whenever a Waster has need of an item in their travels, whether it’s a first aid kit, a headlamp or a set of handcuffs, they will use their Gear stat.
The first time a character needs an item they’ll roll their Gear stat pool and have the sum total in items that can be declared at any time.

For example, Hazmat is one day out of Rocketansky City and they need a stick of dynamite to blast open a locked door. Hazmat’s player looks at their stats.
