In my dreams, I'm "part waterborne on my mom's side". That means I can breathe underwater, talk to fish, and have very limited elemental control over water. In dreams, breathing underwater feels "better" than breathing air.
Anyway, I'm only part waterborne. There are entire underwater cities and kingdoms that are hidden from view. Magick, I guess.
I'm desperate to visit them.
I saw one from far above once in a magick fountain. The inhabitants had vanished during a festival. Music was still playing, tables were set with games and food. It was like a ren fair at a life-sized fishbowl castle.
I saw one from underneath another time, just for a moment. I swam on my back at the bottom of the sea looking up. The sun was visible all the way down here because the city was glowing. Everything was bright shells, towers, walkways spanning distances. And the "people" were like humanoid versions of every sea life. I know I saw rays and seahorses pulled into humanoid shapes. It was beautiful but I only saw it for a moment before I'd swam past the gap where it was visible.
Another time I was welcomed into what looked exactly like a lower class teniment block. It was mostly dry ground by way of forcefield. This is where half-breeds who weren't fully adapted to the water were sent.
I find doorways and portals to these places on occasion.
But I'm almost always denied entry for one reason or another.
"Too volatile"
"Too much surfacer blood"
"Not enough humility"
"You're ill and we can't risk anyone catching a surfacer disease"
"Not enough time"
"Oh look, you're waking up, sorry"
I'm starting to think my subconscious just doesn't feel like creating an entire satisfying fantasy city for me. My brain is just, "do you know how much work that is?"
When I say, "may I dream of deep water", I'm wishing to return there. If I say "may you dream of deep water", I'm hoping you find the place where you felt most at peace, safe, welcome, and loved.

Weirdest part of a dream from this morning.
I ran into three mermaids in the shade under a tree by a completely dry pond. They weren't doing well. I thought if I conjured some water for them, they might answer a question about my ancestry.
I held up my hands and water flooded out of them until it was about three feet deep. I was wading in the water with them.
The mermaids had immediately started dancing and swimming, obviously ecstatic to have water again. I could see them simultaneously as beautiful fishtailed maidens and as cruel eyed, gray skinned, wiry haired predators. I asked one of them if it would answer my question. It rolled up to me and waited.
I asked if my family had been waterborne, like them.
It replied, "no, kūtay" the same way a Hindu would call me a Dalit before swimming away.
There was a human woman nearby that the mermaids were trying to lure into joining them and she said her mother had told her stories about the kūtay and how they were all murdered a couple of hundred years ago.
Water is important in my dreams. In my dreams, I tell people "I'm part waterborne on my mom's side." That means different things in different dreams, but I can breathe underwater in most of them.
I cannot explain the bliss of being in the water in my dreams, of breathing it in deeply and getting more out of it than I do the air. I'm overcome with joy, giddy and excited like a kid on Christmas morning.
Part of that is because I'm often denied entry.
I get mad about it sometimes.
Why won't they let me in?
Saturday morning I had a dream where I was in a building beside a river. It had great glass observation walls so you could see under the water. We watched massive sea serpents, scores of fish, and merpeople, fae water nymphs, and other things swimming by.
Two hoop snakes rolled out of the water and into our room to introduce themselves.
I knew this was a parade, an underwater parade.
Before they could speak, I knelt before the hoop snakes and asked if I could join them. I was prepared to plead my case. I expected to be politely declined. One of the snakes, with a face like a bass skull, studied me. I felt my heart racing and I was already rehearsing the, "I'm waterborne on my mom's side" line in my head.
Instead, the skull headed snake said, "yes".
I was elated, nearly crying with relief and anticipation.
I ran to the river and jumped in.
I stuck my face in the water and paddled forward like a motorboat, breathing in the refreshing water.
I was accepted among those who looked more the part of a waterborne.
Until I tried to submerge fully and found I couldn't.
It felt like I was being pushed or held on the surface.
The water resisted even though I could see others down there.
I was getting frustrated. I didn't understand. I'd been given permission to be here.
One of the other waterborne told me I had too much baggage.
It told me in a matter of fact way like it could see what was tied to me.
I understood.
The water wasn't rejecting me.
I was holding on to too much of the surface to let go. It was like I was wearing a massive life vest of doubt, regret, and uncertainty.
I was keeping myself out.
It was the first time I took responsibility for not being able to go deeper.
This evening I experimented with mixed configurations of my two Surfskates. A #Yow Teahuppoo and a Duster's Kosher Cruiser with #Waterborne #surfskate adapter.
It should help me to decide which parts to keep, as I only can ride one board at the time.
This was a close and unexpected match.
Each #skateboard showed a better riding experience to me than before.
However, I decided for the broader Teahuppoo deck, Waterborne adapter with narrower Slant truck and larger, softer wheels.
