#Widthdrawals

@ustralien Obviously, #widthdrawals in the form of #subscription are the main leverage here and many if not all sites operate on 4 pillars to keep revenue incoming.

  • It's easier to subscribe than unsubscribe. It takes more clicks or they try to prevent people aggressively from cancelling by not allowing cancellations as easy as subscriptions.
  • Platforms don't just accept "No!" and instead push for either 'returning customer spechal offers' or "pausing" a subscription at most.
  • Most platforms incentivize people into "forgetting" that they still pay for a service they don't use. Compared to Services that are pay-as-ypu-go / pay-per-use they won't send #Spam to incentivize people to "retry" their service or buy something again.
  • Add to that all the emotional manipulation and guilt tripping they can get away with legally.

Making "onboarding easy - offboarding painful, frustrating and hard" is something sites literally pay for!

@txt_file @lina the Problem with #PayPal is that they have NO REAL #COMPETITION, so being an asshole corporation has no real consequences.

I mean, look at the state of #OnlinePayments:

PayPal OWNS the market for #payments harder than Autodesk for Engineering Software and Adobe for Creative Software because #regulators like @EUCommission refuse to regulate!
