#WifeApprovalFactor

We’ve also been to Ikea and I’ve sneaked in (paid of course, but low #WifeApprovalFactor) a #Zigbee closed/open door sensor.

My Waifu says it’s pointless, but I’ve seen kids opening the doors on random and venting the apartment without any reason. It’s going to have it’s use in my head.

Pretty intense day in my book… I’m surprised I haven’t been more pissed off during all the events, as it was all chaos…

@fhekland Yeah, read about it too… It’s been suggested as a possible solution in cases people can’t get it running at all.

Mine is running ok most of the time, having issues on occasion, lowering #WifeApprovalFactor significantly…🤡

In the spirit of probing the #WifeApprovalFactor, I’ve created a conversation by returning to my desk after 3 weeks of recovery.

I have immediately started complaining about my current monitor’s DPI and how uncomfortable for my eyes the resolution difference is compared to iPad Pro.

She immediately started laughing maniacally, instantly seeing through a smoke…😂

I guess I will have to fight for it a bit more…🫣🤣🤷🏻‍♂️

Couldn’t let it go. #Noctua fans are in, #RaspberryPi and it’s drives are already 20°C cooler. Also, decided to take the modem out of the black chassis and put it back in it’s own case. It was to clunky to due to the cables. Looks as clean, though…🥰 #WifeApprovalFactor #HomeIT #HomeLab #DadFromIT

This looks SO MUCH better… #WifeApprovalFactor bonus points have been gained!😂 It’s now 1 PDU instead of 3 power strips. Easier to manage, easier to clean, easier on the eyes… Yes, I like to look at the hardware inside…😎

At some point I will have to add 2 more fans to that black chassis, as Raspberry Pi and a hard drive inside are idling at 60°C. Also, I think I will take the modem out of that chassis, but I’m not 100% sure yet…

I’ve been wanting those #8BitDo bluetooth Nintendo themed controllers for RetroPi, but it didn’t sit right with me to pay €40 for a gamepad for kids.

Today I went against my gut and I have bought one - discounted exposition model for half the price and I feel somewhat violated.

The #WifeApprovalFactor was high, though. Hoping it will be in a nice condition. Damn, I’m hoping it will ever arrive…🤣

EDIT…

Damn, I’ve just found another one - used…😅🙈 Guess what…🤦🏻‍♂️

@extrowerk Haha! That’s funny! Unfortunately, I’m not in charge of the money at work and, what’s worse - I have to look at the #WifeApprovalFactor at home…🤣

In terms of spending money it’s always very strict set of rules…😂

@extrowerk This looks nice, but it has really low #WifeApprovalFactor…🤣 It’s to big, as it has to fit into a half of 1 unit Besta cupboard along with 1U gateway, switch, modem and RPi.

It also looks like loud fans which my wife will instantly dub LOUD NOISE…🤣

I’d go with it in an instant if I was single, though!

@viq I’m already running it from PoE switch WITH M.2 NVMe HAT with 500G drive as a boot drive. It’s been hell of unreliability with SD card, so I’m glad I did it.

It also has to power up ZigBee key AND additional 2,5” mechanical drive for Plex.

I could maybe get away with replacing that Plex rust and just use the extra space to manouver the video out of iCloud for some time, until I can delete most of it.

The problem is #WifeApprovalFactor. We already pay over 700PLN (bimonthly) for power…😅

I’ve been thinking some sort of mini PC/thin client with USB-C enclosure as the cheapest option, but have no idea where to even start and what to look for (more in terms of storage)… #iCloud #NAS #WifeApprovalFactor

Since I’ve been recording WAAAAY to many videos and all is being stored in #iCloud, I’m slowly running out of that 2,2T drive I’ve been paying for and there is apparently no option to further expand it.

Most of the data is videos, most of them of little to no consequence. I could move it to some kind of self hosted solution and maybe remove them, but I’d have to built a #NAS first and it has to be low power, due to the dubious #WifeApprovalFactor

@notthebee I’m trying to understand what are you warning people about…

So they won’t spend their money? If they can, they do no harm to their family, why not? There’s always limiting #WifeApprovalFactor…🤣

I also work with a huge IT infrastructure and it’s usually not so easy to replace IT equipment. It has got better in last few years, but it’s been usually a battle with accounting over what they see as non-manufacturing related toys…

Until something stops working, of course…😅

I’ve now switched to an #Apple #iPad Pro with #iPadOS26 with a secondary display connected to it.

We will see on Monday, if I will be able to work from it and do not turn on the power hungry PC. I’m trying to reduce the overall desk power usage.

With the PC, 2k monitor, a laptop and an iPad it’s been ~250W on idle.

With only iPad, 2k monitor and a laptop it’s under 90W. #WifeApprovalFactor is VERY high…🤣

I don’t know if my wife had given up on me or what, but she’s ok with me buying this low #WifeApprovalFactor #UniFi 1U switch for our home #network…🫣😁
