Realistic? No idea, otherwise I (mostly) agree with this assessment about #Warfare. #filmsky #movies #worthwatching

Just finished Anthracite (Anthracite: Le mystère de la secte des Écrins), a neat little six part TV series. It's a mystery with occult trappings, quirky and fresh.

Despite the mediocre Rotten Tomatoes ratings, I'd highly recommend this one. The story is ... convoluted, so it isn't for casual in-the-background watching.

>> I have to assume that's what my fellow Americans want, the wild west from John Wayne movies or something.

That, , , and .

Just watch this opening scene from : "This one's got to be a female — She can't make up her mind on which way to go" [sic]

This is what passed as jokes in movies we grew up watching as kids and watched again WITH our kids.

No wonder is so rampant in this country

I watched "Walk, Don’t Run" again last night. Last time was 1967, in the Navy.
There’s a scene in a Tokyo police station that made me hit 'pause' and consult IMDB.
Yes! It -was- @georgetakei behind the desk! For me, made the movie #WorthWatching. Thank you, Mr. Takei!

A favourite film a day for 365 days: Gabbeh.

A film, a fable, told more in images than actors speaking words to propel a lot. And the images, and colours, are some of the most beautiful ever put on screen.

A favourite film a day for 365 days: Violent Cop.

A literal title translation would read, 'Warning: This Man is Wild'. A far better description of this story about a policeman who doesn't just go after criminals, but anybody he doesn't like. Kitano is stone-faced and remorseless throughout; the violence is shocking; and it's all the complete opposite of the tranquility of yesterday's choice. I love it.

A favourite film a day for 365 days: After Life.

What memory would you most want to keep? This strange, charming, alluring film is life-affirming in the best, most comforting sense. I keep coming back to it.

A favourite film a day for 365 days: High and Low.

The final confrontation between businessman and kidnapper adds that extra level of pain and anguish all the best crime stories achieve.

Beautifully observed, achingly sad masterpiece from Ozu.

A favourite film a day for 365 days: Blow Up & Zabriskie Point.

One a big hit at the box office; the other a *massive* failure. I love them both equally.

This is very much in line with where I think software development and tech as an industry is heading and is well #WorthWatching.

A favourite film a day for 365 days: Red.

The final film in the 'Three Colours' trilogy. If Blue is 'Liberté' and White 'Egalité'- my interpretation - then Red is 'Fraternité': an understanding, acceptance and embrace of others. Which makes it all sound cold and clinically intellectual. And that's absolutely the last thing it is.

A favourite film a day for 365 days: White.

Penniless and alone, a Polish man travels home from Paris in a friend's suitcase - to avoid the airfare! - then begins to make his fortune and to plot his revenge on the woman who divorced him. An idea carried through to its logical, sad and unsettling conclusion.

A favourite film a day for 365 days: Blue.

Some people find this story of a bereaved woman closing herself off from life and then, ever so slowly, coming back into it, as cold as the title colour. For me it's hypnotic and compulsive.

A favourite film a day for 365 days: Breaker Morant.

"A new type of war for a new century." So says one of the three soldiers on trial for murder in the final days of the Boer War. Generals connive, witnesses lie, motives are muddied. Easy answers nowhere in sight.

Hugely enjoyed 'Heartstopper' on Netflix. It's based on Alice Oseman's hugely popular graphic novels series of the same name and is about young LGBTQ+ love. It's heartwarming, funny, and quite profound. Well worth watching.

A favourite film a day for 365 days... is back.
In the 1940s, Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger made a string of masterpieces that still continue to dazzle and impress. And they started with a film Winston Churchill wanted to suppress because it dared to portray - in wartime - a sympathetic German. And then gave him the key propaganda speech!

A favourite film a day for 365 days.
Based on Sam Fuller's own experiences as an infantryman in WW2, this is by turns melodramatic, subtle, haunting and yes, even funny. (The delivery of a baby in a tank after a battle sees condoms (used for gloves) flying everywhere, cheese cloth for a mask and belts of bullets pressed into service as stirrups.) Definitely one of a kind.
