One more #writingtrick I've had success with when looking for #plotlines and #ShortStory ideas, is to browse through old #newspaper stories & "weird true tales" #YouTube videos for ideas (especially helpful if you are #writing #Mystery, #Crime, #Suspense, #Horror, or #SpeculativeFiction).

There are a lot of FREE #NewspaperArchives on the web. Here's a great one, from the #LibraryOfCongress:

@callmecarm
#Author #PeterDavid has the trick of using people he knows in real life when he needs a smaller character ("walk-on role").

Years back, while reading one of his #StarTrek books, he had a char w/the same name & description as a friend of mine ("Capt. Lee Tennant of the starship, USS Chance").

I mentioned it to my friend, who told me that it WAS him. He knew Peter David, and had been written into the book. My friend said David did that regularly.
