Every 5 years I get it in my head to run #ADnD2e and use some of my favorite material from the time.

Then I start rereading the rules and I realize that (like alot of folks) we just skimmed the rules, assumed we got it, and basically played #ADnD1e with 2e bits.

This is followed by an internal debate over running 1e, 2e, a retroclone, or BX with one of the Advanced Edition books for LL or OSE.

This continues until i never run the game, rinse repeat...

At the last Con I attended I ran Skerple's Kidnap the Archpriest with GURPS 3rd edition, which - to my perception - was solid success. For comparison I'll run the same module using AD&D 1st edition at the next Con. So I'm presently taking a deep dive into AD&D 👹 With either, I'm going strictly by the book including encumberance and all those minor details.

For now I can say this: GURPS beats AD&D in terms of speed of character creation 😲 I feel this is mainly due to GURPS being so much better organzied when it comes to equipment and encumberance. However, generating a pregen takes much longer with both, than with OD&D, the rules system I am probably most used to.

With GURPS I enjoy the mind soothing consistency, but I dig the implied setting of AD&D. With the broader range of spells, when compared to OD&D, I might actually develop a taste for AD&D.

My future plan is to do another run of Kidnap the Archpriest with Classic Traveller ... I might even end up with my one and all time favourite rules system 😅

Das war nicht nur total nice, sondern hat mir noch mal vor Augen geführt, welche Aspekte des OSR-Spielstils mir gefallen, wie die wesentlichen Bestandteile des Hobbies und #dnd Manierismen aus histor. Perspektive Gestalt angenommen haben und was für ein zauberhaft-seltsames Geschöpf early #dnd war 2/2

I usually more of a B/X-Person and prefer streamlined modern osr hacks (not a big fan of Gary‘s prose either), but I’m really curious to revisit the „advanced“ version of the game.

Behold, the first #dnd character i ever played. #adnd1e circa 1982/3, i was maybe seven years old.

The handwriting is mostly from my long departed dad, who taught us the path.

@Yora @chgowiz From my experience and what I've heard from other people, everyone plays slightly differently. Even if they're playing #adnd1e ! It's part of the fun of ttrpgs right? Otherwise we would all just let computers handle the rules I think.

Q1 Queen of the Demonweb Pits. This is the end of one of my favorite 1st Edition series. This series begins with a trip to the Underdark.

Next is the Giants, where your party will be challenged by Hill, Frost, and Fire Giants. Once they have been vanquished, you need to travel to the Demonweb, Lolth's little home in the plains. How many of you played or DMed this series?

I finally joined a play-by-post campaign, and we're exploring the #Barrowmaze. I really wish I'd discovered these years ago! The pace has taken some getting used to, but the creativity of the other players and GM has been outstanding.
