In 2020, when the pandemic started and the whole country was in distress, my husband turned our backyard flag upside down. "Country in distress" is the meaning. It was long since taken down, especially as good leadership prevailed. Distress is variable and relative. For me distress is right wing conservatives taking rights away from us. For them, distress must be the opposite, liberal rights for all and the rule of law.
Our problems are deep division. Buckle up and hold onto your hats. It's going to be a bumpy ride this year.
