Hey folks. For alt text I need to make clear the difference between a compass (the thing that draws/measures circles) and a compass (that magnetic thing that shows the direction you're facing). How do you do that? I need to make sure it's clear I mean the first thing (the drawing thing). It's about an icon in the image.

Seriously, how do you alt-text original characters in comic style?
Nothing I could write would make a person who needs the text know what the character looks like, they would never be able to actually "see" the art like it is in their mind and then it kind of misses the point, doesn't it?
It's so frustrating and the reason why I hardly post ocs anymore, because no alt-text is kind of bad….
Any tips on that topic would be appreciated

If I have a well known meme, like expanding brain or clown applying make up, is it better to just give the name of the meme, or is it better to describe the meme? I can see a case for both, and since I don't use it, I can't tell which makes more sense.

Sighted friends: I'm working on my new website, and I'm using the attached picture as the featured image on my homepage. It's of me holding my 10-year-old male Miniature Pinscher, Squeaker. Can someone suggest some good alt text for it? I'd ask my mom, who's the one who took it, but she's not great at this kind of thing, and I don't know where she is. I tried asking #JAWS PictureSmart, but it kept pointing out unimportant things in the room and didn't say much about Squeaker.

please add alt text (otherwise known as alternative text and descriptive text) to your images if you are able to because it makes your posts more accessible for many disabled people

there is the option to add alt text to uploaded images by uploading the image, clicking on the top right corner of the image where it says edit, typing the image description in the box, and then clicking apply when finished

if you are unable to add alt text to you can ask other people for help by changing your post's privacy to public and then tagging your post with the hashtags #AltTextNeeded and #AltTextHelp

I'm not the only disabled person, never claimed to be - that comment's a weak deflection. My disability isn't visually related. I care about other disabled folks with different challenges. AltText helps #VisuallyChallenged . I make effort to manually add AltText, like many other folks who don't have it built-in.
