Connecting the dots: Floods, climate change and fossil fuel projects

Photos of the recent flooding in B.C. and Washington state have filled my social media feed and newspaper pages. Scrolling through, I wonder what it will take to help citizens and our leaders connect the dots: climate change is the leading cause of extreme weather and excessive rainfall, fossil fuel extraction and burning causes climate change, it’s time to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. Instead, we can expand our clean energy developments (hydro, solar, wind, geothermal). We can only control emissions in our own country, and it’s time Canada took bold steps to move away from fossil fuels and embrace clean, healthy alternative energy sources.

Fossil fuels, like fracked gas ( #LNG ), is making floods in BC and Washington more frequent and severe. And many politicians want to keep making these floods more and more devastating and frequent. How do you feel about that? #BCFlood #bcpoli

Expanding fracked gas exports and taking climate adaptation seriously are not compatible policies. LNG subsidies require de facto climate denial, and that is where Eby and Dix are at. #bcflood
