New reporting reveals the extremely close relationship Federal Police oversight officials have with Seattle Police. The feds were supposed to be monitoring for misconduct at SPD, but instead appear to have been working with the cops to improve their image.

And as I mentioned in some other comments here... even IF ICE can up its arrest rates (by getting more support from local LEOs) most locals don't have the jail space to support that volume of arrests!

The Seattle region regularly runs out of jail space for low level offenses. We at most have 100-200 open jail beds in the best case for LEOs.

During 2020 protests many days there were single digits of jail beds open for arrestees.

#SPD #BLM2020 “In a 2021 lawsuit, [Hirjak] said Chief Diaz made him the scapegoat for …Lt. John Brooks, who ordered officers in riot gear to deploy tear gas + blast balls into a crowd of protesters on Capitol Hill on June 1, 2020. Brooks racked up …complaints, was promoted to captain; commanders responsible for abandoning the East Precinct went undisciplined.”
